Bond Shymansky enters his third season at the helm of the Yellow Jackets after two of the best seasons in Georgia Tech history. In his first year as head coach at Georgia Tech, he directed the team to the most wins in school history and the 2002 ACC Championship. In his second season, he took the Jackets where no ACC volleyball team had gone before -- to the Final Eight of the NCAA Tournament and a national ranking as high as #4. After signing a new long-term contract, Shymansky looks to continue the traditions of success he has established.

In his first season, he coached the team to a 33-6 record, the most wins in school history, and to the 2002 ACC Championship. The 2002 team advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished ranked 17th in the final USA Today poll, which, at the time, represented the highest final ranking in school history. In addition, Shymansky coached the program's first ever All-American in Lynnette Moster and had four players earn all-ACC honors.

In his second season, the team finished with a 34-4 record and a 15-1 conference record, earning the top seed in the ACC Tournament. After an upset in the ACC final, the Jackets went on to the Final Eight of the NCAA Tournament, losing to host Hawaii, and a final USA Today ranking of 8. The team was ranked as high as 4th -- the first ACC team ever ranked so high. In addition, he coached Tech's first first-team All-American and the ACC Player of the Year in Kele Eveland and had three other All-American and All-ACC players.

Shymansky initially joined the Tech coaching staff as an assistant coach in February of 2000. He was the team's defensive coordinator and handled a number of administrative responsibilities during the 2001 season. He also helped train Maja Pachale, the 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year, and Lauren Sauer, the 2001 ACC Rookie of the Year.

The Jackets experienced two of its finest seasons in the program's history with Shymansky as an assistant. In 2000, the Jackets finished the season with a 25-8 record, earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, and won the ACC regular season championship. In 2001, Tech went 19-8 and earned their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to his arrival at Georgia Tech, Shymansky spent two seasons on the coaching staff at Iowa State, including a four-month stint as the interim head coach in 1999. In addition to his collegiate coaching experience, Shymansky has coached in the high school and club ranks. He was the head coach at Iowa City High School from 1996-97, guiding his squad to the state semi-finals in his second season while also earning himself a nomination for Mississippi Valley Conference Coach of the Year.

A native of Iowa City, Iowa, Shymansky began his volleyball career at the University of Iowa, where he participated on the men's volleyball club team from 1991-1993. He earned a bachelor's degree in communications in 1995 and a master's degree in secondary English eduction in 1998 from Iowa.

Shymansky, 32, is married to the former Catherine Cruikshank of Iowa City, Iowa. The couple has a nine year old daughter, Corrina, and a six year old son, Nicholas.

In 2004, his fifth year on the staff, the Yellow Jackets return four starters to a squad which will be seeking its fifth straight NCAA tournament appearance.
