Florida State makes Final Four

The Seminoles are the first ACC team to ever make the NCAA Final Four in volleyball. They beat Iowa State in four Saturday (10 Dec) night in Minneapolis. They play UCLA Thurdsay night on ESPN2. See story.

Tech has first losing season since 1990

Junior rightside Monique Mead had 10 kills, but made 11 errors, as Georgia Tech fell to Clemson 22-25, 24-26, 19-25 to finish the 2011 season Wednesday night in Atlanta. Mead, Tech's only All-ACC honoree, could only shoulder so much of the load this year as the Jackets wound up in their first losing season since an 8-30 mark in 1990. Playing much of the year without injured seniors Bailey Hunter and Asia Stawicka, the Jackets struggled to an 8-12 ACC finish, the most conference losses in school history. Hunter will return next season after red-shirting this year, while Stawicka has finished her eligibility.

The team fought hard all the way to the end and never gave up on themselves or each other. The experience they all gained will help Tech to a better 2012.

#21 Florida State clinches ACC crown at Tech

Junior middle Lexi Woodson had a career-high 14 kills and junior Monique Mead led the team with 15 kills, but Tech lost to #21 Florida State 20-25, 25-17, 20-25, 15-25 Saturday night in Atlanta. The win clinced the ACC championship and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for Florida State. It extended Tech's season-high losing streak to four matches. The Jackets also suffered their 11th conference loss, the most in the program's history, and their first losing conference season since 1999. See story and box score.

#22 Miami squeaks past Tech

Junior rightside Monique Mead had 24 kills and junior libero Nicky Meyer had a career-high-tying 25 digs as Tech fell to #22 Miami 25-22, 20-25, 25-20, 15-25, 11-15 Friday night in Atlanta, GA. The loss extended Tech's losing streak to a season-high three matches and made sure the Jackets would not have a winning ACC record. Tech stands at 8-10 in the conference with two matches to play, having matched the program-high in ACC losses. They have two matches to avoid their first losing season since 1990. Tech swept by NC State

Junior rightside Monique Mead had 15 kills and junior libero Nicki Meyer had 19 digs, but Tech was swept easily at NC State 16-25, 22-25, 16-25 Sunday afternoon in Raleigh, NC. It was Tech's last road match of the year as they fell to 5-8 on the road. The Jackets must win one of their next three matches to avoid a losing season overall and two of their next three to finish at least .500 in the ACC. See story and box score.

Three players earned double-figures in kills as a balanced attack from Georgia Tech led to a 25-21, 25-20, 19-25, 25-17 win over Virginia Saturday night in Charlottesville, VA. Junior rightside Monique Mead led the way with 19 kills, 8 digs, 5 blocks and 4 aces. Sophomore outside hitter Jennifer Percy added 13 kills, hitting .500, and sophomore outside hitter Ivona Kolak added 10 kills. Junior libero Nicki Meyer led the back row with 20 digs, while sophomore setter Kayleigh Colson notched another double-double with 40 assists and 13 digs. See story and box score.

Sophomore setter Kayleigh Colson recorded Tech's first triple double in five years to lead her team to an 11-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21 upset of #23 Miami in Coral Gables Sunday. Tech's last triple-double came on 1 Sep 2006 against Mississippi State when Allie Niekamp acheived the feat.
